the time that i moved 3.5 blocks
so you would think a move down the street, literally only 3.5 blocks away, would be easier than this one was. going into the move i was convinced that it would only take about 2-3 hours to make the move over to the new place. yeah, not so much. it ended up taking a good 7 hours to get everything cleared out of the old place and into the new one. last time i moved i didn’t have much furniture since i had roommates previously. what a pain in the ass. trying to get the couch in through the back door was a task unlike any other.
i’m slowly adjusting to the new place and taking my sweet time unpacking. didn’t realize how much crap i have. instead of boxes i used tons of those plastic containers. it took like 15-20 of them and now they’re scattered throughout the house. i estimate at the rate i’m going that i should be done by the end of june or so.
comcast came and installed on wednesday and it only took four days for them to get everything working. the one thing i am impressed is that these old coax wires coming in from outside can handle everything (4 HD Streams + 1 SD Streams + Cable Internet). one HUGE complaint is that the HD box that they provided me only connects to the TV with component cables. horrible picture quality vs. HDMI. i never thought the difference would be so glaring.
to top everything off, thursday was the dreaded layoffs day at work. i was lucky enough to be safe this time around which i am quite grateful for. i will however, be using this as an opportunity to try and get more interactive responsibilities put on my desk.
now that the move & everything at work have passed i am hoping the anxiety attacks start to slow down. i woke up from my nap this afternoon and was freaking out. attacks coming out of sleep are the worst.
and now i’m off to go do some more unpacking. until later.
the time that i didn’t make any sense at all.
so i went back and read the entry i made last night and it totally doesn’t make any sense. yay me!
i am most thankful that the week is finally over. seemed like a never ending and most stressful week, although i suppose it is going to be that way until at least the end of february.
now that lost, damages, and battlestar galactica are back on tv with new seasons i couldn’t be happier. the first two episodes of lost were rather interesting. not as fulfilling as i would have liked but still rather great. the island time jumping thing is rather odd and could get rather annoying quickly. my hope is that it will stop before they reach the mid-season mark. three episodes into damages and it’s been quite amazing as well. it will be interesting to see how the story line for this season plays out but there have already been some REALLY good twists. as for battlestar galactica, i’m sad to say that i was somewhat disappointed in the beginning fo the last half of this season. itfeels like everything has just started over and they’re back in the same situation. they have a lot of work to do in the last 8 episodes if i’m going to be satisfied with the ending to the series. caprica, however, will hopefully hold a great deal of promise. getting to know the back story will likely be insanely interesting.
television is absolutely amazing. i thought i loved tv before i got my hdtv but once i got it i really discovered what television is. add in the movie channels and i could literally sit in front of the television all the time. actually, i know that i couldn’t. i tried that over the holiday break and nearly lost my mind after just two and a half days.
beyond tv and work i don’t have much else going on. i don’t really have too much extra time.
i have been having a horrible time sleeping lately so on monday morning i’m heading to the doctor’s office to explore the possibility of me having sleep apnea. after doing some research it seems like a lot of my symptoms are sure signs of all the fatigue and sleep issues i’ve had over the past several years. it will be interesting to find out if this is what is really causing everything.
okay i’m off to bed. more later.
the time that i didn’t have much to say
it was super crazy at work this week but it’s almost over. yay for the weekend!
i don’t have much to say but i will say – 1. high definition is pretty much the best thing ever and 2. i had one of the best sandwiches i’ve ever had in my life today. it was ham and typically i don’t even like ham.
that is all.
the time that i had a serious addiction to tivo and hdtv
i have a confession … i have a serious addiction to my TiVo, HDTV, and cable.
i subscribe to every channel my cable company offers except the international ones (who needs television in spanish?) which totals to 273 channels. because i have so many options i’ve discovered that my TiVo makes some amazing suggestions when it comes to movies, especially since i have all the premium movie channels and there are some great things on there.
although i only have 91 items saved on there right now, which is a lot less than i had imagined. the problem is that at least a quarter of those are movies that are two hours or longer. if i watch five hours of tv a day it will take me three weeks or more to get caught up and that doesn’t include any shows that would be recorded between now and then. i need to come up with a strategy to make a dent in this.
and now, the list …
the time that i was just freaking awesome (one of many)
so the new shoes that i have are awesome. i laced the shoes up in a very skaterish way (“props” to Joe on that one). i think i have to buy they grey one’s so i can wear them with everything.
i have a couch now. so the couch and the tv just make my place normal for once. the tv alone is amazing. i can’t get enough. hd television is pretty much the most amazing thing ever.
bleh. i’m sleepy and need to get to bed. i just can’t think. more later.
the time that i got a ginormous tv
omg this tv is amaaaaaaazing. 46″ of wowness. the picture quality is beyond words. it’s a bit crazy going to a tv that’s twice the size as the old one. it’s taking a bit of adjustment but i think i can manage. getting the damn thing was a journey in and of itself. i had requested dhl to make another delivery attempt so i decided to work from home so i could be here for that. of course they still had it on hold at the station for pick up so my friend andrew and i had to rent a zipcar and journey down to the southside to pick it up. that was just grand. as we were walking down broadway to pick up the car it was sleeting and i was trying to have a conference call with work. good times. i finally got the tv and it was sort of worth the battle. especially the one i had trying to set it up. it ended up being a lot heavier than i had expected. i tried lifting it out of the box only to realize that it wasn’t happening. so i had to lightly turn the box over on its side and slide the tv out and drag it into the living room. at this point i had to muster enough strength up to pick it up off the floor.
good times.
after reviewing my most current cell phone bill i have determined that i have enough rollover minutes saved up that i could talk on the phone for five consecutive days and never hang up and still have a bit left over.
bleh, what is up with me having even less to talk about than normal?
the time that i couldn’t remember all i wanted to say
i have made the ultimate purchase! a 46″ HDTV. i’m beyond excited about it. i didn’t have plans to get one for a few months but i came across an amazing deal and i just couldn’t resist. this could quite possibly be the best purchase i’ve ever made (right after the HD TiVo). as if i wasn’t addicted to tv now. i can’t freaking wait to watch nat geo & discovery channels in HD.
saturday was a lazy day. and then today was filled with trying to walk around in the slush/ice that has covered all of the sidewalks. i went to the grocery store earlier this evening and i stepped in what i thought was just snow but actually turned out to be a pool of ice water covered by snow. this weather needs to disappear as soon as possible. i’m so very ready to bust out the shorts.
i thought i had more to write about but i’ve clearly since forgotten everything temporarily. later perhaps.
