the time that i had 13 days off from work – parts I, II, & III
prologue (22 december):
it was a struggle getting through work on monday. knowing that monday would be followed by 13 days of relaxation was too exciting. there was barely anybody in the office so luckily i was able to get some last minute items done before the holiday break. i was so excited that instead of taking the bus from the train station i decided to walk. as you see in the post below, that was somewhat of a mistake. that having been said, as you will read shortly, i haven’t left the apartment much since i got to walk home in -3 degree weather.
part I (23 december):
this started out my marathon of tv watching by trying to get through. by the end of the day i had like 12 hours of sleep and 12 hours of tv watching under my belt. there wasn’t much left on my tivo to be watched.
part II (24 december):
by this point in my vacation i started to realize that i wasn’t going to be able to keep this up much longer. the tivo was pretty much empty except for a few select programs. i finally moved on to starting to watch seasons 1 and 2 of mad men.
part III (25 december):
not a very exciting christmas. not going back home to see the family kind of ended up sucking, especially with having all of this time available. i’m nearly done with season 2 of mad men and it has gotten crazy good. i’ll be sad when i’m done but luckily only have a few months before season 3 starts.
after mad men is done i’m going to breeze through season 1 of damages and then i think i’ll be done with catching up on all of my television that i’ve been meaning to get through. beginning tomorrow i will also be trying to add other activities to my daily agenda as television watching and napping has gotten old really quickly. next week i hope to stop in at the art institute and see all my favorite impressionist pieces that have finally returned. beyond that i’m not sure what else i am going to do to fill in the time.
the time that i experienced many types of cold
walking from the train this evening i experienced a few different types of cold:
- not too cold. i can handle this.
- okay it’s a bit cold. it’s only five blocks home. i can do this.
- my face is starting to feel numb but i will survive.
- my feet have become numb so they skipped the whole painful cold part.
- the damn sniffles won’t stop.
- my ears are freezing up. i think they might be rock solid.
- it’s official. i’m frozen.
the time that the weather was a huge letdown
i’m so tired of these bogus winter storm predictions that just don’t come to fruition. i get all excited thinking it will be bad enough to warrant the office being closed and then it just doesn’t happen. granted it did snow a lot today, it certainly didn’t get bad enough to not have to go into the office tomorrow.
i’m just hoping the journey to work isn’t as bad as it was today. it was sleeting this morning and to make it worse i think my umbrella is at my friend john’s place. the walk to the bus stop was bad enough with the wind blowing cold ice into my face but it got so much more worse as i stood on the corner of foster & ashland waiting for the #92 bus to come. there was a point while i was standing there that i just wanted to go home and climb back into bed, either that or just start crying. it was at the point that i realized that as much as i love winter with its snow and cold weather, i’m so done with it for a while. spring and summer need to hurry up and get here.
speaking of spring and summer arriving shortly, it looks like i’ll be playing on a softball league starting in may. this should be fun(ny). i’ve warned my friend who got me to join that i haven’t played since i was 7 so this is bound to be an interesting adventure.
in other horrific news, my cable card that is in my tivo messed up sometime today and random channels aren’t showing up. tonight’s episode of project runway didn’t get recorded! i’m hoping it gets fixed soon so i can catch a re-air sometime soon. rcn totally blows, i think i need to consider the move to the equally bad comcast.
i’m trying to decide what i’m going to do apartment-wise as my lease will be coming up for renewal in four months. while i do have plenty of time to find a new place, i have less than 60 days to decide if i want to move or give it another year here. i have this horrible fear of not being able to find something decent in my price range. do i want a 1 bedroom or a large studio? do i stay in andersonville or try a new neighborhood? roommate or no roommate? too many decisions to make.
i’m 5% closer to purchasing the couch (for a total of 95% sure). i think i’m going to go this weekend to check it out once more before i order fabric swatches and place my order. oh yeah, and i should probably make sure it will fit in my place as well.
and now it’s nearly 3am and i’m not asleep yet. i probably shouldn’t have taken a nap earlier this evening.
the time that it was the second day of february.
it’s hard to believe that it’s already february. we’re 1/12 through the year. before we know it it will be july.
this week seemed to go by rather quickly. the highlight of the week would definitely have to be thursday. turner sports took some of us from work to dinner and to see a show at second city. i had never gone and had been wanting to for a while now. second city is absolutely amazing. very similar to gayco, which i love as well. i’m definitely going to have to start going to the shows more often.
it ended up snowing an insane amount on thursday. i woke up and opened the front door this morning and there was about 6-8 inches out there. i ended up working from home today which was just more stressful than i care to think about right now.
ah the most exciting news of all … i finally got my membership card for the art institute this week! i can’t wait to go again, it’s been ages since i’ve gone.
until later.
the time i came back home to chicago and it snowed
i have returned to chicago and was graciously greeted with a winter storm. although, in my opinion it most certainly didn’t turn out to be as bad as i had expected. no pics from this snow experience as i only bothered to go outside and walk through it once and when i did, it was just way too wet to want to deal with the camera in it.
my sleeping pattern was thrown off for some reason. i just couldn’t get to sleep last night and ended up with about two or three hours of sleep last night. i tried to nap but after an hour or so i woke up and just couldn’t get back to sleep.
no big plans for the next few days. going to try and take advantage of these last four days of vacation and just relax and catch up with a few friends. no big plans for new year’s, going to a party with a friend but i’m hoping it will be a low-key evening for the most part.
i’ve been entertaining myself with wikipedia over the last few days and i’ve learned some AMAZING things, including some interesting things about lake michigan. lake michigan covers more surface area than the country of croatia. the average depth along the chicago shoreline is 15-35 feet, however the lakebed it littered with tons of crap including ship wrecks and airplanes from world war II. history lesson for the day.
and now i must return to finish the last movie of the day. just about to finish the holiday which caps off a full day of other not-so-great films such as i, robot and maid in manhattan (shut up, don’t even start with me. there was seriously nothing better on tv.).
The time it snowed a lot and I tried to pass off a picture from two weeks ago as being from this weekend
I only went outside once or twice this weekend and when I did the snow was blowing so hard that I couldn’t hold my phone steady enough to take a decent picture, so instead I shall post a picture from two weeks ago and we can all pretend it was from this weekend’s snow storm.
